It's the two different cultures. America is obviously much more job orientated and nearly everything is about money, and I don't really mean to sound judgemental about that. I gather that in the US there's very little in the way of holiday time during the year. About 2 weeks or something and employment rights and law are very much stacked in favour of the employer (am I correct?). Across in the UK, the life work balance is considerably better in some regards but can still be quite challenging for many families.

This was so funny for me as a Romanian, because she hit every point that you use to insult the Romanians, telling them they're from Balkans or that they are Slavic for example. We here in Europe don't believe in ''working harder'', we believe in ''working smarter'', having time off from work; be it through vacation, weekends, less work hours in general or otherwise is proven to increase efficiency of a worker, while the opposite has proven to decrease efficiency. If your work horse is going at 100% none-stop all the time, the work horse is going to get both mentally and physically drained to the point where it just says stop, along the way more mistakes will be made due to being overwhelmed and stressed out, which just makes extra work and hassle. Here in Europe we have understood the secret behind working efficiently to improve maximum potential, even taking a 5-10 minute cup of coffee to chat with collegues about none-work related things in-between tasks improve the level of efficiency a worker can put out, becuase it gives their brain time to re-adapt and allign more efficiently towards the new task ahead.

People don't earn enough to live by themselves. Let's face it, 80% of the USA hovers in the working poor income bracket as prices are rising. Life in the USA is the daily fight to get to the next paycheck, to pay your rent and maintain a vehicle. You work for minimum wage without benefits and health insurance. When I was at school they did mention it in history class at my Primary school. The subject was titled The Boston Tea Party, and it was explained that it started because the American settlers refused to pay taxes to us, there was a war, our regular enemies the French helped the settlers, and they declared their independance. I imagine that most European countries having no personal interest in the events probably learn less about it than us.

The "free health system" idea really pissess us Brits off because the reason why the NHS is struggling is because thousands and I do mean thousands of tourist come over here just for the "free " treatment. I worked for the NHS in our local hospital for 25 years and had people turning up at our A&E in serious kidney failure, or heart failure, unstable pregnancy etc etc and because we in the NHS have a system of not turning anyone away who needs medical help we cant cope and we (NHS ) are very quickly crashing. If a tourist does need urgent medical care they are treated and then are handed an invoice for the amount of money they owe for their treatment and 9/10 the medical tourist dissapears never to be heard from again and leaving the NHS with another financial loss. Something has go to give because we are at risk of loosing our hospitals because of this happening.
